When you start fundraising for a hospital you encounter lots of inspiring and heart rending stories. Here is one that beautifully describes why individuals like the 4Challenge riders will go to great lengths to raise money for Sheffield's fantastic hospitals.

In February of this year, Matt Lollar (Sales Manager at BirchenallHowden Ltd) recieved the devastating news that his 5 year old daughter Phoebe had a rare and aggressive form of cancer called Medullablastoma. This disease effects less than 45 children in the UK each year and requires intensive treatment.

So far the family have responded by raising almost £8,000 for the Sheffield Children's Hopsital!!

Matt's Story

"We have spent an extensive amount of time at the Sheffield Children’s Hospital and will be spending the next 6-9 months there as Phoebe undergoes intensive chemotherapy. The treatment she has received has been outstanding. The staff are incredible people and have cared for us all both physically, mentally and emotionally. We want the work that’s done by the staff there to carry on with as much financial ease as possible so people like us continue to receive this world class medical care.

We have raised £7,852.63 since the end of March with family, friends and strangers responding generously to our fundraiser #RunForPhoebe during the Sheffield Half Marathon. All of our supporters see giving as their way of supporting us through this difficult time as there is very little anyone else can do.

People often say “I can’t imagine what it must be like for you guys to go through this.” I always respond by saying, “take 5 minutes and really contemplate the thought of losing the person you love most in life. This is something of what we feel. Then you will understand why we are so passionate about raising money for the hospital.”

Our next event is #LiftForPhoebe on June 16th at Structure Sport and Fitness in Sheffield. A sponsored benchpress competition. Please consider giving to our efforts. Get in touch on Twitter to get involved @ForPhoebe."

Our thanks to Matt for sharing his family's story.
